Antam to re-tender Kalimantan alumina project EPC

IDX-listed state miner PT Aneka Tambang Tbk plans to re-tender EPC contract for the development of Tayan chemical-grade alumina project in West Kalimantan as price offered by the winner is considered too high.

CEO Alwinsyah Lubis said that EPC winner Kawasaki Heavy Industries is offering for current standard. He did not disclose the price.

Lubis said the re-tender will be held in Feb. 2010.

Antam, together with Marubeni and Showa Denko plan to develop the alumina plant, which will produce 300,000 tonnes per year chemical grade alumina. Showa Denko will also act as offtaker of some of the plant?s output and Marubeni will act as marketing agent.

The project?s construction is expected to take 28 months. The project is initially expected to start production in 2011.(denny)
