The prominent Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) vows to help the SBSI labor union to uncover the suspected bribery by oil and gas firm Vico Indonesia to the local East Kalimantan police, the local Kaltim Post daily said.
"We support the effort of SBSI to uncover indication of bribery to the local police by Vico management," said ICW coordinator Teten Masduki.
ICW is a high profile anti corruption group, which has successfully revealed large-scale corruption in Jakarta.
SBSI chairman Muchtar Pakpapahan recently alleged the East Kalimantan police of receiving money from Vico to help curb the activity of the labor union in the province. The statement was made following the detention by the police of Wuaya Kawilarang, the provincial coordinator of SBSI, on grounds that he had instigated an anarchy during the recent labor strike at Vico.
Muchtar had also filed a legal suit at the Jakarta court against the East Kalimantan police chief for the arrest of Wuaya.
He has also reported the alleged corruption to the House of Representatives, the International Labor Organization, and the International Police Commission.
Vico has so far denied the allegation. (*)
