Nickel mining company PT Anugerah Multico plans to build a smelter to process nickel ores into nickel pig iron (NPI). The company is currently in the process of completing the feasibility study.

?We?re still thinking about the location of the smelter, whether to build it in Banggai or in Java. It will depend on the electricity supply and infrastructure facilities,? Director of Anugerah Multico, Ladjiman Damanik told Petromindo.com Wednesday.

He said that the nickel ores for the smelter will come from the company?s concession in South Halmahera, North Muluku Province. ?In addition, the nickel ores will also be supplied from Banggai,? he said, without providing information on who owns the Banggai concession..

The smelter is targeted to start operation in 2014, with an annual production target of 30,000 tons of NPI per year. ?We?ll export most of the NPI production to China,? Ladjiman said.
