PT Asia Pacific Mining Resources (APMR), an Indonesia based coal trading company, stated that the company will be no longer using barges to send coal to the Philippines.
Ramli Ahmad, Director at APMR told Petromindo.com that the company will use handy vessel instead of barges.
?We will use handy vessel with capacity of 30,000 tons to ship coal to the Philippines,? he said on the sidelines of Independent Power Producer Conference 2016 held by Petromindo Thursday.
He added that this policy will be applied after several coal barging crews from Indonesia was taken hostage by Abu Sayaff rebel group in the Philippines water territory recently.
?We will commence to use the vessel may be in June 2016,? he said, adding that Philippines is still the main market of the company this year besides Vietnam and Malaysia. He revealed that from the target of 1 million tons of coal trading volume in 2016, around 750,000 tons are destined for the Philippines market. Ramli revealed that the company usually takes the coal from South Kalimantan.
