Vancouver-based junior gold miner Apolo Gold Inc.said it had commenced mining at its Napal Umbar Picung mine in Lampung province, Sumatra with production expected next week.

The company said ore to be processed was being stockpiled and maintenance and construction works for the mill had been completed.

The company had also purchased an electrowinning unit that will be delivered by the end of February. This machine will allow for the processing of gravity concentrates. The resulting material will then be sent to a refinery in Jakarta for final processing.

The company expects to produce 15,500 oz of gold and 330,000 oz of silver in its first year of production.

Apolo said significant copper mineralization on its NUP property had been discovered in the past month. ?The Company?s geological team has been testing an area about 4 km south of the present workings of Apolo Gold Inc on the NUP. Five surface grab samples were taken over a width of 8.5 meters and first test results received to date from the lab averaged 9.85% copper,? said Apolo.

The company said it had also discovered a quartz carbonate vein on the Karya Bukit Utama (KBU) property that is 1.25 meters in width. ?This vein is approximately 200 meters west of the processing mill and the company intends to do additional trenching, extensive sampling and other geological investigations on it,? said the company.

The KBU property is adjoining the previously acquired NUP property and consists of 933 hectares, which the company acquired late 2003. (alex)
