A number of investors from the Middle East have expressed their interest to invest in coal and cement production in Rokan Hulu regency, Riau, Kompas reported on Saturday.

The regent of Rokan Hulu, Ramlan Zas, said in Pekanbaru on Friday a group of the Arab investors would soon visit the regency to the explore the possibility of investing in the commodities.

He did not name the companies which would be represented by the investors. But he said that they would come from a group of big companies.

According to him, the coal reserves and cement deposits in the regency are sufficient enough for a large-scale investment. The coal reserves could reach about 336 million tons.

Ramlan said that the cement deposits in the regency are larger than those owned by cement producer Indarung. ?The cement deposits could last for 90 to 100 years,? he added. (*)
