Hasan Saad became the first Acehnese to sit in the top management of the North Aceh-based liquefied natural gas producer PT Arun NGL Co when the company's shareholders elected him in a recent shareholders meeting as vice president.

Azhari Ali, the spokesman for the LNG producer, said in Lhokseumawe on Monday that Hasan Saad, who was born Lamlo village in Pidie regency, became the first Acehnese to sit in the gas company's top-level management.

The shareholders also named Sunardi as the president of the company, the second largest LNG producer in the country after the Bontang LNG plan in East Kalimantan, he told Antara news agency. He added that Hasan was in charge of the company's daily activities because the president of the company was, as usual, based in Jakarta.

He said that the LNG producer's operation in Aceh was previously headed by a general manager but due to certain reason such a position was removed and replaced with vice president.

PT Arun NGL, located in some 14 kilometers from Lhokseumawe, North Aceh or about 274 kilometers from the provincial capital Banda Aceh began its first LNG production in early 1980s. The company has now exported about 11 million tons of LNG or equivalent to 194 ships to Japan and South Korea,

The company, which also exports liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to China, produces 67,000 cubic meter of LNG, 670 cubic meter of propane, 440 cubic meter of butanes and about 42,300 barrel of condensate per day. (*)
