The Lhokseumawe, Aceh-based PT Arun NGL may not be able to meet its commitment to export 103 cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Japan and South Korea this year due to the continued decline in gas supply, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

PT Arun's spokesman Abdul Fatah said in Lhokseumawe on Thursday that the management had doubted the ability of the company to meet the export target if no efforts were made to increase the gas production from the Arun field, which is operated by ExxonMobil.

Fatah said that the company initially set a target to export LNG of 110 cargoes this year but due to the decline in the gas production, the target was lowered to 103 cargoes. "Even with the lower target of 103 cargoes, it's difficult for PT Arun to fulfill if the gas supply continues to decline.

Last year PT Arun successfully achieved its commitment to export 115 cargoes -- 61 of which were shipped to South Korea and Japan. (*)
