The government has appointed Hasan Saad as the new president of Aceh-based LNG (liquefied natural gas) producer PT Arun NGL, the local Serambi Indonesia daily reported Wednesday.

The paper added that Hasan, previously vice president, is the first Aceh indigenous to hold the top position in the company.

The paper quoted a source as saying that installation ceremony was held in Jakarta last Friday. Hasan, who started his career at the company in 1976, replaces Sunardi.

The paper said that company division III manager TeukuFarchrduin, also an Aceh indigenous, was widely tipped to become the new vice president.

The installation of Hasan at the helm of Arun is expected to be positive to the Aceh province, which has been hit by decades of guerilla fighting demanding for a separation from Indonesia. Hasan can lobby Jakarta to push Arun to give more contribution to the economic development in Aceh.(*)
