Arun NGL may declare force majeur: BPMIGAS

Monday, December 27 2004 - 08:28 AM WIB

Upstream oil and gas authority BP Migas said Arun NGL may temporarily halt LNG shipment from Aceh to South Korea and Japan and declared force majeur due to unfavorable weather condition and fear of aftershock following 8.9 Richter scale earthquakes that hit the area Sunday morning.

BP Migas deputy chairman Trijana Kartoatmodjo told reporters that currently two LNG ships, namely Aquarius bound to South Korea and Echigomaru bound to Japan?s Tohoku Gas are loading in Arun?s port.

?If the weather continues to get worse, we will stop the loading and declare force majeur, because it would be unsafe for the ships to load? said Trijana. He also added that a team tasked to make assessment had predicted continued aftershocks in the next few days.

Trijana said Arun gas operations was running normally as the earthquake did not cause any significant damage to natural gas and liquefaction facilities. (godang)
