Arutmin committed to improving community development

Coal mining company PT Arutmin said it was committed to continue improving its community development programs in the areas of economy, social, education, health, and religious affairs to empower people living in its mining areas in South Kalimantan.

Arutmin's administration superintendent Suryo Saputro said the company would involve as many people as possible in its community development programs.

In Satui sub-district, for instance, the company's community development programs involved seven cooperatives with 715 members, 49 groups.

Last year alone, the company spent Rp 1.1 billion for its community development project in Satui. In Senakin subdistrict, the company spent Rp2.8 billion.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan governor HM Sjachriel Darham said other companies in the province, both domestic and foreign investment companies, should follow Arutmin's move in improving community development programs and then report the programs to the people so that the people know that their existence in the province also benefit the people.

He said he had ordered his staff to send letters to all companies operating in South Kalimantan to report their community development programs to know how much they had spent for the people in their operation areas. (*)
