The news agency quoted Soemarwoto, a company mine manager, as saying on Thursday that coal from the Asam-Asam mine would be supplied to the Suralaya power plant owned by state electricity firm PT Indonesia Power in Banten.
Arutmin had been asked to supply the power plant with three million tons of sub-bituminous coal per year, Soemarwoto said, adding the order would be increased to five million tons per year in the future.
With the new mine, Arutmin, which is wholly owned by Indonesian mining giant PT Bumi Resources, now have four mines. The three other mines are located in Satui, Senakin and Batulicin respectively.
?The Asam Asam mine contains sub-bituminous coal with a calorie content of less than 5,500 kcal/kg, which meets the need of power plants,? Soemarwoto said, adding that the mine contained hundreds of millions of tons of coal. (Bodega)
