The labor union chief at coal mining firm PT Arutmin Indonesia Yusuf Noor said that there's been a growing unrest among the company's employees following plans to form a partnership with PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia to develop a new coal-mining project in South Kalimantan province.
Yusuf said that the employees had demanded a severance pay before the East Kalimantan-base Arutmin transferred them to Thiess.
"We will continue to fight for the employees so that their demand could be fulfilled," he told the local Kaltim Post daily.
Under the partnership deal with Thiess, all of Arutmin's employees would be transferred to Thiess. But the employees demand Arutmin to pay first a severance pay as compensation. (*)
