Arutmin partners with police cooperative to curb illegal coal mining

South Kalimantan-based coal mining company PT Arutmin Indonesia has made a cooperation agreement with a cooperative linked to the police with an aim to curb illegal mining in the area, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported on Tuesday.
Under the cooperation, Arutmin and the police cooperative will develop partnerships with illegal coal miners in the area, said Suryo Putro, Arumtin?s partnership project superintendent.
As many as 19 mining units from Satui district in Kotabaru regency will be got involved in the cooperation, Suryo said.
Arutmin had also developed similar cooperation with military-linked cooperatives.
Illegal mining activities have been rampant in South Kalimantan. They are reportedly backed up by local businessmen. (*)
