South Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Arutmin Indonesia plans to produce 17.2 million tons of coal this year, significantly higher than this year’s production of around 13 million tons, a company official said.
“The production plan is still subject to government approval,” said company senior official Sonny Pangestu.
Arutmin, a unit of JSX-listed resource firm PT Bumi Resources, is planning to boost production by opening new mine in Batulicin and new pits in Satui and Senakin mines.
Arutmin’s sister company, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, is proposing to produce 26 million tons this year, making Bumi’s 2004 planned combined output at 43 million tons, or almost 40 percent of Indonesia’s 2004 planned coal production. (godang)
