Coal producer PT Arutmin Indonesia has resumed deep under ground mining activities at Sajuna Pit in Satui mining area in South Kalimantan to increase its coal production, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.

PT Arutmin’s spokesman Zainuddin Jr. Lubis said that his company has been conducting exploration activities by making three tunnel doors in the former mining holes at Sajuna Pit.

“We will exploit the hole, because there are coal deposits in the horizontal direction at the bottom of the hole,” Zainuddin said recently.

According to Zainuddin, Arutmin actually digged that hole by using tunnel method in 2001. But it collapsed due to a landslide and claimed human lives. The digging was stopped immediately.

But he said that the company had done some research prior to resuming the underground mining work.(*)
