Coal mining company PT Arutmin Indonesia said Thursday that its alliance with PT Thiess Contractor Indonesia to develop the Senakin and Satui coal mining project in South Kalimantan would be realized as scheduled despite existing anxiety among more than a thousand of its employees.
Arutmin personnel manager Zainal Abidin was quoted by the East Kalimantan Kaltim Post daily as saying in a press statement that the project would be started on June 12.
Zainal also said that based on the contract, Thiess would employ Arutmin's employees for the mining project.
But he didn't specifically say that there would be no layoff among Arutmin's employees.
There's been increasing concern that the alliance would cause massive layoff among Arutmin's more than 1,300 employees. (*)
