Due to the regular overhaul of coal-fired power plant Asam-Asam, Palangkaraya and two regencies in Central Kalimantan will encounter rotational blackouts for one month starting from August 22, 2006, Kompas reported Saturday.

?Asam-Asam coal-fired power plant Unit II is currently undergoing a routine overhaul after operating for 8,000 hours,? state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN)?s manager for Palangkaraya branch, R. Arie Muskitta said on Friday in Palangkaraya.

The Asam-Asam power plant supplies electricity to the South Kalimantan-Central Kalimantan inter-connection transmission grid. The regular overhaul of Asam-Asam Unit II has lead to the drop in production capacity to 185 megawatts (MW).

The power plant located in Tanah Laut regency South Kalimantan, which is owned by state electricity company PLN?s subsidiary PT Indonesia Power, has two power generating units, with each having a capacity of 65 Megawatt. (*)
