Manganese mining company PT Asia Mangan Group, a local subsidiary of Australia?s Asia Minerals Corp, plans to hold a tender at the end of this year for the supply of 500,000 tons of coal per year.

Vice President for Processing, Ahyar Alham told Petromindo.com recently that the coal would be used to fuel the company?s 8x9MW power plant to supply electricity for its ferro-manganese smelter in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

?But the implementation of the tender will depend on the progress of our smelter project. The total coal requirement of the power plant is 500,000 tons per year,? he said.

The company is currently in the process of developing a smelter facility to process manganese ores into ferro-manganese with production capacity of 128,000 tons per year. Ground breaking for the project was implemented in December of last year. The smelter is expected to start full operation end of 2016.
