Palm oil group Asian Agri plans to build a total of 20 biogas power plants through 2020 to support electricity supply for its palm oil mills. The company plans to build three units, each with capacity of 2.2 MW, in Sumatra next year.
Head of Corporate Communications at Asian Agri, Maria Sidabutar, said on Monday that the company currently already has seven biogas power plants scattered in North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi provinces with total capacity of around 15 MW, and total investment of US$42 million.
?Investment is around $5-6 million per one (biogas power) plant. Our target is that by 2020, we?ll have one power plant for one palm oil mill. We have 20 (palm oil) mills,? she said, adding that part of the electricity supply is distributed to local community.
