Asiatic develops a special coal port

PT Asiatic Universal Indonesia is developing a special coal port in Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, and a coal processing facility in Merangkayu, Investor Daily reported on Tuesday.

Ground-breaking ceremony for the Rp 4 trillion port project was held on Sunday attended by senior government officials. Construction is expected to be completed within two years.

Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar said that the Muara Badak coal port forms part of the 14 special coal ports envisioned by the government to facilitate export of coal from the country.

He said that overseas shipment of coal in the future must be conducted via the special ports to help improve supervision of the country?s coal export. (*)
