Atlas completes construction of coal port, hauling road

IDX-listed coal miner PT Atlas Resources Tbk said that it has completed the construction of a coal port and hauling road in South Sumatra to support production activities.

The company said in a statement Tuesday that its subsidiary PT Sriwijaya Bara Logistic (SBL) has completed the first stage construction of a 120-ha coal terminal at Lalang River in South Sumatra.

It said that the terminal, to be jointly operated by SBL and Noble Group, has a capacity to load 6 million tons of coal per year, and to serve barges with capacity of up to 8,000 tons. It also has a stockpile facility with capacity of 500,000 tons.

Atlas said that Noble has also agreed to acquire a 10 percent stake in SBL.

The new coal port is located about 133 Km from its coal concession, according to company website. From the river port, vessels carry the coal to a transshipment point 178 km away.

Elsewhere, the company said its subsidiary PT Musi Mitra Jaya has completed the construction of a 131 Km hauling road to support coal production of up to 6 million tons per annum at the concession.

The new coal infrastructure facilities are aimed at supporting coal production and sales activities at the company?s concessions in Musi Rawas and Musi Banyuasin regencies, South Sumatra, which have combined coal reserves estimated at 97.3 million tons and coal resources at 331.9 million tons.
