Australian Resources, Energy and Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson discussed a number of issues including the possibility to cooperate in the development of Indonesia?s untapped geothermal resource during his meeting with Vice President Boediono in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Yopie Hidayat, the spokesman for the Vice President, said that issues discussed during the meeting included the possibility to cooperate in the development of Indonesia?s geothermal deposits, among the highest in the world.
?Australia is interested in the development of Indonesian geothermal,? Yopie said following the meeting. ?Vice President welcomes the offer as many Australian companies have developed geothermal technology,? he added.
The development of geothermal energy is one of the priorities in the government?s energy policy. The government expects to produce at least 3.500 MW of geothermal-based power supply by 2014 and about 12,500 MW by 2025. (*)
