Australia? Leighton records operation revenue $236 M in 2002

Australian listed contractor Leighton Holdings Limited said Tuesday that last year its Indonesia-based operation had booked operation revenue of A$236 million, up from $177 million in 2001.

?Indonesia again provided a good contribution and the Group's projects have progressed well,? Leighton said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the company said that revenues from its secured contracts had amounted to $975 million last year, down from $1,208 million in 2001.

In Indonesia, Leighton was involved mainly in coal mining projects, through its subsidiaries Leighton Asia (Southern) Limited and PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia.

The company said Thiess Kalimantan-based operations performed solidly at the Satui, Senakin and Kideco coalmines. PT Kaltim Prima Coal awarded Thiess further mining contract and civil work at the Sangatta coalmine.

Meanwhile, contract mining activities of Leighton at the Sebuku, Loa Janan and Malinau coal mines in East Kalimantan progressed well and construction proceeded on a rail project in West Java, the company added. (robert)
