Azerbaijan offered to build LNG terminals

Indonesia has offered Azerbaijan to cooperate in oil and gas industry such as in the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and gas pipelines in the country.

The offer was made by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Zahedy Saleh during a meeting with the visiting Azerbaijan energy minister Kamaladin Heydarov in Jakarta on Friday.

Darwin said that Azerbaijan, known for their experience in the construction of LNG receiving LNG terminals, would send a team to Indonesia to study the cooperation plan.

According to Darwin, Indonesia needs a number of LNG receiving terminals for the distribution of natural gas in the country because building pipelines to supply the gas would be more costly.

The ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas Evita H Legowo said that Indonesia and Azerbaijan are exploring the possibility of cooperating in a number of oil and gas projects in Indonesia such as the construction of LNG terminals, gas pipelines and in clean coal technology.

Azerbijan is one of major oil producers in eastern Europe. At present, Pertamina imports crude oil from the country to supply the company?s oil refineries. (godang)
