Japan’s power company Babcock Hitachi KK and local firm PT Triaryani will jointly build a 2x600 megawatts (MW) coal-fired power plant at Musi Rawas in South Sumatra, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Thursday edition.

The plant, which will use Super Critical Technology (SCT), will be built with an investment of US$1.1 billion.

Triaryani president director Teddy Setiawan said one of his company’s partners suggested that the new plant should use modern technology with better environmental management.

“We will use SCT technology to improve the quality of the plant, which will assure the clean environment. Imagine, the waste water of the plant is drinkable,” Teddy told the Bisnis on Wednesday in Jakarta.

Triaryani is planning to invite four big Japanese companies including Babcock Hitachi. The other three companies are Sojitz, Kobelco, and Nippon Koei Co Ltd KK.

In the long run, Triaryani and its partners are planning to increase the plant’s capacity to 4,200 MW with a total investment of $4.2 billion. (*)
