Bad weather hampers operation of oil, gas contractors

Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Rudi Rubiandini said that bad weather has caused disturbance to production activity in several working areas of oil and gas contractors. It?s estimated that thousands of barrels of oil were lost due to the bad weather.
?The bad weather during the past several days has caused disturbance to production activities,? Rudi said.
Among of those which have made reports about the situation include the followings.
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore (PHE WMO) suffers an estimated 2,300 bopd of production loss due to bad weather. Strong wind and high sea wave have cut off electric power and caused damage to barges. One crew boat sank, although the four crewmen could be saved. Operational support vessels, however, have been temporarily withdrawn to the Gresik port for safety reasons. As of Monday, however, wind velocity has weakened to 12 Knot level, allowing drilling activity to resume.
Sele Raya oil and gas operation in South Sumatra suffers an estimated 1,100 bopd of production loss due to heavy rains, hampering land and river transportation system.
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) saw production loss of 800 bopd in the Java Sea. Meanwhile, Medco South Central Sumatra suffers production loss of 700 bopd as heavy rain has halted the operation of the well, Rudi told Petromindo.com.
He said that the ministry will continue to monitor the situation at the production sharing contractors.
