Badak employees drop demonstration plan

Thousands of employees of liquefied natural gas producer PT Badak NGL in Bontang, East Kalimantan, dropped a plan to hold demonstration today to demand better welfare and working contract.
The local Kaltim Post daily reported Friday that the employees, grouped under the FPLB working union, decided to cancel the demonstration plan after company top management agreed to meet several FPLB executives in Jakarta to discuss the labor demand.
The paper said that ontang police chief Sudjarno played an important role in trying to mediate the two sides.
The paper added that nine of the FPLB executives would meet with Badak president Harry Poernomo, today, at the company?s Jakarta office.
Around 1,500 employees of PT Badak had earlier been reported to plan a demonstration today to demand a better welfare status, and a clear working contract.(*)
