Badak NGL boosts security system

East Kalimantan LNG producer Badak NGL is spending US$18 million to boost security system at its plant?s surrounding area to anticipate increasing security threat, a senior official said on Wednesday.

?Badak considers security risks including terrorism are increasing, therefore we take measures to minimize the risk,? CEO Yoga Suprapto said on a sideline of a launching of two units of fast patrol boats worth $3 million it bought from local shipyard PT.Caputra in Banten province. ?The boats are part of Badak?s grand security plan,? he said, adding that the main aim was to prevent intruders from entering the plant's facilities and port.

He said that among measures Badak took was to double fence the plant?s area and equipped the fence with alarm.

Badak NGL is considered as national vital project and is entitled to get special security arrangement from national police. According to Yoga, Badak NGL, also popularly known as Bontang LNG, contributes some $800 million annually to the state coffer. (alex)
