PT Badak NGL, which operates the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan Province, is seeking for business opportunities abroad to help compensate declining business at home as gas processing volume is set to continue declining in the future.
Didik Sasaongko Widi, President Director of Badak NGL said that the company is finalizing talks with Sempra Energy and Freeport LNG Development LP to provide start up service for their respective LNG trains being developed in the US.
?We?re currently in final negotiation to provide start up service for Cameron LNG (developed Sempra and partners) and Freeport LNG in the US,? he said.
He added that Badak NGL is also looking for opportunities to become operators of LNG plants in East Africa.
Badak NGL currently operates only four trains, and receives gas supply primarily from the Mahakam block, in East Kalimantan, operated by Total E&P Indonesia, in addition to supplies from Sanga-Sanga blok, operated by Vico, and Chevron?s IDD project (Makassar Strait). Total?s contract over the Mahakam block will expire later this year, and will transfer the block to state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, while Vico?s contract over Sanga-Sanga PSC will expire next year.
?We?re transforming into profit-oriented company including finding new business opportunities overseas,? Didik said, adding that Badak NGL was set up in 1974 as a non-profit oriented entity.
