East Kalimantan-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer PT Badak NGL Co will this year allocate Rp8 billion (US$=Rp8,850) for community development projects in the resource-rich province, local daily Kaltim Post reported Monday.

Of the Rp8 billion, Rp306.5 million will be for education, which has been given priority over the years, Badak NGL?s spokesman Mulyana KN was quoted as saying over the weekend.

The fund will also be used for economic, social and infrastructure development projects and so on.

?Since its inception in 1967, the company management has given serious attention to social, economic and human resources development in East Kalimantan,? Mulyana said.

Badak NGL operates the world?s largest NGL facility in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

The company is 56 percent owned by state oil and gas firm Pertamina. TotalFinaElf E&P Indonesie, a unit of TotalFinaElf S.A., also has a stake in the facility. (*)
