Bahtera Adiguna marks the first shipment of coal

PT Pelayaran Bahtera Adiguna (PT PBA), a subsidiary of state-owned utility company PT PLN, has inaugurated the operation of two ships MV Kartini Baruna and MV Kartini Samudra to start transporting first shipment of coal supply to the coal-fired power plant PLTU Tanjung Jati B unit 3 and unit 4 in Jepara, Central Java.

MV Kartini Baruna transported some 68,264 million tonnes of coal from Bontang Coal Terminal in East Kalimantan.

?KM Kartini Baruna is the biggest ship we now have,? President Director of PT PBA Bima Putra Jaya said.

MV Kartini Samudra, which is operated under the so-called operational cooperation scheme (KSO) between the PT PBA and PT Jaya Samudra Karunia, has also just transported some 68,010 million tonnes of coal to the PLN Tanjung Jati. ?It takes about 2.5 days to transport coal from East Kalimantan to Jepara,? he said.

PLTU Tanjung Jati B unit 3 and unit 4 has the capacity of 2 x 662 Megawatt (MW). PT PLN is targeting to consume 39.60 million tonnes of coal for its power plants in 2012.
