PT South East Asia Pipe Industries (SEAPI), a unit of PT Bakrie & Brothers, has established itself to be a world class steel pipe producer by supplying the item for the recently completed South Sumatra-Singapore natural gas pipeline, Suara Karya daily reported.

SEAPI supplied around 65 percent of pipes for the 220-kilometer gas pipeline between Kuala Tungkal (Riau) and Batam, the paper quoted as saying SEAPI?s chief executive officer Abas F. Soeriawidjaja.

On Monday, President Megawati Soekarnoputri dedicated the completion of the 470-km pipeline to transmit natural gas from Grissik (South Sumatra) to Singapore via Kuala Tungkal and Batam.

Abas said that his company had won the contract to supply steel pipes for the project after winning the tender opened by state gas transmission and distribution PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN).

SEAPI had exported oil and gas pipes to the Middle East, and had taken part in China?s pipe supply tender. The company also has produced pipes for oil and producers ConocoPhillips and Gulf Resources, Abas said. (*)
