Bakrie wins a contract to supply BP's gas pipeline project

PT Bakrie Pipe Industries (BPI) has won a contract worth US$12.4 million to supply steel pipes for the construction of a gas pipeline network that will be built by British energy giant BP to transmit its gas from northern coast of Java to PLN's combined cycle power plant in Muara Karang, North Jakarta, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

BPI?s president director A.D. Erlangga said that the company was selected to supply the steel pipes after eliminating the other three bidders. "With the contract worth $12.4 million, BPI will supply 18,000 tons of steel pipes. All the pipes will be manufactured at the company's plant in Bekasi," he said.

BP has won the tender to supply the gas to the Muara Krawang power plant in North Jakarta. The gas will be transmitted through a pipeline network which will connect BP's gas fields near Karawang, West Java to the Muara Karang power plant.

BPI said that the company would also join a tender to supply the steel pipes for the South Sumatra-West Java gas pipeline network, which is now under preparation. (*)
