Bali government plans bylaw on renewable energy

The Bali provincial administration plans to issue a bylaw that will require buildings in the popular resort island to use electricity produced from renewable sources of energy such as solar, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

The paper quoted Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika as saying the planned new policy, which was inspired by similar regulation introduced in Germany, will help realize the local government?s program of Clean and Green Bali.

He said that Bali has huge renewable energy potential such as power and was for producing electricity.

Manager of Distribution at state-owned electricity firm PT PLN in Bali, Alam Awaludin welcomes the planned new policy, saying that despite the huge potential, utilization of renewable energy in Bali remains low, accounting only for 1 percent of the peak load of 843 MW. (*)
