Balikpapan refinery production rises by 1.3% in 2002

Balikpapan refinery unit of state oil and gas firm Pertamina (UP V Balikpapan) in East Kalimantan produced 88.74 million barrels of fuel oil and non-fuel oil in 2002, a 1.3 percent increase from 2001 and meeting last year?s target, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported.

Most of the fuel products were supplied to the eastern part of Indonesia market, the paper quoted as saying UP V?s spokesman Mirza Bahrah.

The processing unit produced between 87.5 million and 88.4 million barrels of oil annually from 1997 to 2000, Mirsza told the paper on Thursday.

Production in 2003 is targeted at around last year?s volume, Mirza said.

Fuel products turned out by UPV Balikpapan include premium gasoline, aviation fuel, kerosene, automatic diesel oil and industry diesel oil. Meanwhile, non-fuel items include high naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), low sulphur waxy residue (LSWR), and ready wax, which are exported to Japan. (*)
