Balikpapan refinery ready to resume full operation

PT Pertamina has started resuming the operation of Balikpapan Refinery II since April 3, 2017 based on its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Currently, the refinery has been already in full operation.

Pertamina said in a press release on Monday that its Refinery Unit V General Manager Yulian Dekri said that his company managed to conduct a turn-around of Balikpapan refinery II on schedule.

?Based on schedule, the turn-around of Balikpapan II refinery implemented ?on to on? for 42 days since March 6, 2017 until April 16, 2017. The refinery?s start-up was conducted in stages since April 3 based on schedule,? said Yulian during a ceremony on Monday to mark the start of the full operation of the refinery.

The turn-around is a routine maintenance of refinery in every three or four years which is aimed to keep its production performance in the future.

?Our target in the turn-around is to implement it in line with the target of turn-around excellent, which is no accident (no fatality, no fire, and no environmental damage), best quality, on time, and on planned cost,? he said.

The turn-around of Balikpapan II involves about 3,500 workers as part of efforts of employing local workers in Balikpapan and surrounding areas. During process of turn-around, all workers? health was steadily monitored and environment was continually checked to ensure no accident and fatality occurred.

The Balikpapan refinery has a total capacity of 260,000 barrels per day (bpd), consisting of 2 units, namely Balikpapan I refinery with a production capacity of 60,000 bpd and Balikpapan II refinery with a production capacity of 200,000 bpd.

The Balikpapan refinery produces a number of oil fuel products, such as Premium, Pertalite, Pertamax, diesel fuel, LPG, Avtur, Pertamina Dex, and others. After Cilacap refinery, Balikpapan refinery is the second largest refinery in Indonesia, with total production contributing around 26 percent of total production of oil fuels (BBM) in Indonesia.
