Balikpapan refinery release new oil -base mud product

State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina announced recently that its Balikpapan refinery rolled out new oil-base mud (OBM) called Smooth Fluid 05,Kaltim Post reported Saturday.

 

The diesel oil-based OBM has a low sulphur content, which will reduce corrosion in drilling equipment.

 

In addition, the product contains low aromatic so as to be environmentally sound and extend the operational age of seal in drilling equipment,” said Chusnul Busro, Head of the Public Relations Division of Pertamina unit V Balikpapan.

 

Based on the activities, the new product was proven more efficient than other products of the same kind, even cheaper than imported product, he said.

 

Balikpapan refinery has the oil processing capacity of 260,000 barrels a day, so far it produced  gasoline, kerosene,  diesel oil, jet fuel, LPG and wax. (*)
