State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina said that its Balikpapan oil refinery in East Kalimantan Province is currently undergoing routine maintenance.
The turn-around program, which started on Monday and expected to be completed on April 17, is focused on refinery 2 which produced 200,000 bpd of fuel products, said Dian Hapsari Firasati, Spokesperson of Pertamina Kalimantan Processing Unit in a statement.
The Balikpapan refinery has total capacity to produce 260,000 bpd of fuel products. ?Due to the routine maintenance, production is automatically suspended,? she said.
She assured that the turn-around program would not disrupt fuel supply in Kalimantan and Sulawesi as the company has prepared fuel supply for next 20-day. In addition, Pertamina has also brought it fuel products from refinery units in Cilacap and Riau.
Pertamina is planning to expand the capacity of the Balikpapan refinery to 300,000 bpd in a project, estimated to cost around US$5.3 billion, targeted to be completed in 2019. (*)
