Bangka regency administration has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two private investors to build a coal export terminal in the area, local daily Bangka Post reported on Tuesday.

The two investors were PT Trimita Adiyasa and PT Transcoal Nusantara, the paper quoted Bangka regent Eko Maulana Ali as saying.

The agreement was signed last Thursday.

Eko said the coal terminal would be located in Mentok district on Bangka Island off southeastern Sumatra.

Investment for the project is estimated at no less than US$400 million, according to Transcoal director Cicip Hadi Sucipto.

Trimitra president director Okky Susyani said South Sumatra-based coal miner PT Bukit Asam would export its coal through the terminal.

Okky said the project was expected to be completed in 2004. (*)
