The provincial administration of Bangka Belitung will build a new steam power plant with a capacity of 2 x 7 MW in cooperation with PT Bangka Power to cope with the shortage of electricity supply in the province, Republika daily reported on Monday.
The construction works were officially begun late last week at a ceremony which was also attended by the province's governor Hudarni Rani and executives of state owned electricity company PLN.
The new power plant, which is located at Air Anyir at the border of Pangkal Pinang and Bangka regency, is expected to begin commercial operation in 2006.
The governor applauded the effort of the Pangkal Pinang municipality administration to build the new power plant. He also supported the idea of establishing a regional tariff to make investment in power generation more conducive to private companies. (*)
