The local office of the ministry of mines and energy, and the local administration in Bangka island held a coordinating meeting in Sungai Liat on Tuesday in a bid to streamline the mining policy on the island, the country's largest tin producer.
The chairman of the organizing committee of the meeting, Yuli Bintoro, said that the meeting, which was participated in by about 40 officials from the local administration and the local office of the ministry of mines and energy was intended to synchronize the mining policy in the regency.
At present, the two offices have different perception in the development of the mining industry and this often led to overlapping and often conflicting programs, he said. He added that some areas have become the source of conflicts because one wants it to be developed for plantation while the other wants to develop it for mining operation.
He said that the meeting also outlined an integrated policy in coping with the negative impact of mining operations on the environment. (*)
