The Bangka Island province needs to implement natural resources accounting or NRA to ensure revenue stream once its tin resource depletes, according to an expert.

Bambang Setyadi, a deputy at the Technology Development and Management Agency (BPPT), was quoted by the Republika daily as saying that the NRA approach would help Bangka to look for other resources as alternative to the tin mining.

Bambang said that the NRA would also help avoid environmental destruction from the tin mining operation.

He said that Bangka could develop tourism object at its tin mining site as an alternative when the tin resource depleted.

Republika said that so far, the Bangka administration had not make any preparation to anticipate the depletion of its tin resource.

The paper said that BPPT recently held a two-day seminar on Bangka Island which also covered the issue of NRA. The seminar was participated by key people of the Bangka administration and was opened by head of BPPT A.S. Hikam.(*)
