Bangka regency to have new tin smelter soon

Bangka will soon have a smelter that is able to produce refined tin from tailing as PT Bangka Global Mandiri International (BGMI) is set to operate the smelter late 2007, Kontan Daily reported on Thursday.

 

The Rp 167 billion project was currently in furnace activation stage, President Director of PT BGMI Indayat Arsani said in Bangka on Wednesday.

 

The company is a joint venture between Singapore Tin Industry, Chinese government-owned enterprise Yunan Tin and Bangka regency administration would be inaugurated by Vice President Jusuf Kalla and produce 50,000 tons of tin per annum.

 

The paper said the smelter would be equipped with Chinese technology and hundreds of Chinese engineers are now working to complete the project.

 

The smelter will use tailing with a tin content of 3 percent as raw material, according to the paper. (*)
