Banjar Sari power plant to start operation soon

Independent power producer company PT Bukit Pembangkit Innovative (BPI) plans to soon start operation of Banjar Sari coal-fired power plant in East Merapi district, Lahat regency, South Sumatera province, about 200 km from Palembang, the provincial capital city.

Sri Andini, BPI?s Director told Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the power plant, which has total capacity of 2x110 MW, has passed through the commissioning stage, and has already been connected with the grid system of Sumbagsel (southern part of Sumatra).

?We plan to officially launch it in December 2015, and we hope President Jokowi could come (to inaugurate the operation),? she said, adding that the total investment for the project reached US$300 million.

Sri explained that the power plant consumes about 1.4 million metric ton of coal which is supplied by IDX-listed coal miner PT Bukit Asam Tbk. The coals used as the fuel for the power plant are low calorie coals, with calorie numbers rated between 4500 kcal/kg and 6000 kcal/kg.
