Banjarmasin collects coal transportation levies directly from drivers

Banjarmasin city administration in South Kalimantan has begun collecting coal transportation levies directly from coal truck drivers in accordance with new regulation, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported Friday.
Drivers were obliged to pay Rp3,000 (US$=Rp8,270) for each ton of coal they transported from Banjarmasin to other areas, the paper quoted a local government official as saying.
The official said that collecting coal transportation levies on the road was more effective than waiting for coal stockpile owners to pay them at government offices.
The new collection method was meant to implement regulation on coal transportation issued this year by the Banjarmasin administration.
Meanwhile, city counselor Sayuti Enggok said the method was illegal. (*)
