The 2x110 MW Banjarsari coal-fired power plant in Lahat, South Sumatra, is now scheduled to begin operation in May of this year.

Director of Finance and General Affairs of PT Bukit Pembangkit Innovative (PBI) Sri Andini said on Thursday that the power plant is expected to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). ?Maybe it could be officiated by President Jokowi this year. God Willing in May,? she said Thursday.

PBI, which owns the power plant project, is a joint venture between IDX-listed coal giant PT Bukit Asam Tbk (59.75%), PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali (29.15%), and PT Navigat Innovative Indonesia.

As reported by this portal previously, the Rp 3 trillion power plant project was initially targeted to begin operation in the first semester of last year.

The power plant will need about 1 million tons of coal per year with calorific value of 4,000 kcal/kg GAR, to be supplied by Bukit Asam.
