The Banko Tengah 2x620 MW coal-fired power plant in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, is scheduled to begin commercial operation at the end of 2017.

This was said by the Corporate Secretary of IDX-listed coal mining giant PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Joko Pramono to Petromindo.com recently. PTBA is in partnership with China Huadian Hong Kong Co Ltd to develop the power plant project.

The company is currently in the process of concluding the process of raising the funding needs for the project of about US$1.59 billion. Once completed, the company will begin construction process. ?We?ll start construction early next year,? he said.

The power plant will require coal supply of 5.4 million tons per year, which will be obtained mostly from PTBA?s concession in Tanjung Enim.
