Banpu declares force majeure for S. Kalimantan coal shipments

Friday, August 3 2007 - 09:11 AM WIB

Thai energy firm Banpu Plc said on Friday that its South Kalimantan coal mining unit PT. Jorong Barutama Greston (JBG) had declared force majeure for shipments following excessive rain.

“The impact of such declaration is relatively minor, however, as the July and early August shipping schedules have been re-organized to ensure minimal adverse impact,” the company said.

Limited production recommenced on 29 July.  This is expected to steadily improve during August and go back to normal rate in September, it added.  JBG Deputy Director Leksono Poeranto  told Petromindo.Com  that currently production has resumed at 30 percent of the normal rate.

JBG is now assessing the lifting of the Force Majeure condition depending on weather over next few days, the company said.

Jorong, which sell its coal production to domestic and export market,  plans to produce 3.5 million tonnes in 2007. (godang)
