Banpu expects Bharinto to come into production 2006

Thai energy conglomerate Banpu Plc. expects to bring its newly acquired Bharinto Ekatama mine in East Kalimantan into production in the first half on 2006, the company said in a report released Thursday.

Banpu acquired 99 percent stake at Bharinto, which is located close to its Trubaindo mine earlier this year for US$ 12.5 million. Banpu would spend another US$ 30 million over the next two years to bring the mine into production.

Bharinto had an estimated reserve of 40 million tons of bituminous coal with a gross calorific value of approx. 6,800 kcal / kg.

Bharinto mine will able to use infrastructure of its sister mine Trubaindo.

Bharinto plans to produce 750,000 tons of coal in the first year of production. The output will be increased to 1 million tons in the second year, 1.5 million tons in the third year and 2 million tons in the fourth year. (alex)
